Most of my work is within a four-hour drive of Griffith, across the Riverina, western NSW and northern Victoria. But I've managed safety programs nationally and I'll travel for the right job. If your site carries hazards, distance isn't the barrier.
I work to the model WHS Act and regulations across New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, and to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 in Victoria. The duties are similar across both, but the wording, the notification requirements and the penalties differ, so the systems I build are set up for the jurisdiction the site sits in.
Irrigated food production: rice, citrus, wine grapes, vegetables and nuts, with the packing sheds, processing and cold storage that go with them. Broiler farms, and the transport moving product out. Most of it runs on seasonal peaks and crews that turn over.
Mixed cropping and grazing, irrigation along the Murray and the Murrumbidgee, dairy around Deniliquin, and grain handling and storage. The regional centres at Wagga Wagga and Albury carry the freight, manufacturing and food processing.
Grain and livestock country with large scale storage and handling, meat processing, mining and quarrying through the district, and the freight and rail infrastructure around Parkes.
Fruit growing and processing through the Goulburn Valley, dairy and dairy processing, and irrigated horticulture at Mildura and Swan Hill. Victoria runs the OHS Act 2004 rather than the model WHS laws, so the systems here need a different wrapper around the same controls.
Facilities, construction and services work rather than the agricultural processing that dominates further west.
Usually head office work, audits and system reviews rather than routine site attendance.
Getting there
I'm based in Griffith, so the Riverina and the MIA are a day trip. A short site visit does not have to carry a day of travel with it, and coming back a second time is straightforward.
Southwest NSW and northern Victoria are a same day return or an overnight, depending on where the site is and how long the work runs. Central West NSW and the capital region are planned as overnight trips, which is worth knowing when you are scoping a job: grouping work into one trip usually costs you less than bringing me back three times.
